There is something about how dogs approach their worlds that really allows ample room for joy. I mean, something as simple as snow can become completely magical when it’s your dog who is enjoying it. They’re so innocently happy with everything, and it’s so honest and easy to share in that joy.

Chloe’s first snow was in Kennebunkport, Maine (say that 10 times fast) and though she will have many more snow days, her excitement was absolutely contagious. If you’re here for some adorable puppy moments- stay tuned.

Winters in the North East are beautiful. We decided to find an airbnb come November, since so many campgrounds were closing, and we were nervous about the water situation. We would have been fine in the camper, the coldest it got from October to January was 14 degrees! I only used the block heater in my truck one time! What a wonderful change from North Dakota/Minnesota.

Chloe and I completely fell in love with the area- talk about ADORABLE coastal towns! Even during the off season, there was so much to see and to do. Every ‘Maine’ street had the iconic buildings all piled together, people milling about in mittens on the cold streets. Fall and then Christmas decorations abounded. My favorite was a massive Christmas tree full of lobster traps and lobster decor. It was incredible. Kennebunkport is where President Bush Sr. vacationed, and you can drive by their estate. I was there when he passed away, and it was incredible to see the community come together, and how proud they were to have a president reside in their town. So if you’re looking for an adorable town in South coastal Maine- check out Kennebunkport. Let’s get back to the snowy situation.

One day in November, Chloe and I woke up to see that the world had finally turned white! Big fluffy wet snowflakes had filled the yard overnight, turning fall into winter, and the world became a wonderland.

Chloe went out the door to the yard and was rather confused at first. She smelled the snow. Then she ate the snow. And then she shook her head like a maniac because it’s sure cold! Then she RAN leaps and bounds all over the white wonderland. I managed to snag a video.

Chloe’s first snow

Okay, how STINKING adorable!!! Here’s the happiest part. I also love snow. I mean, it’s so clean and quiet. The sky whispers its secrets when snow falls, the world hushes an listens to the stillness. And the happiest thing is that Chloe shares this joy with me. She loves the softness on her feet, digging for whatever is hiding under the snow, and bounding after snowballs. Who else likes the snow?!

I apologize for everyone who is looking forward to fall right now and here I am talking about winter. Fall is probably my favorite to be honest- mostly because of pumpkin pancakes. But Chloe is a snow dog, that is completely certain. Despite her short hair and dark complexion, snow is definitely her jam.

Since our first snow day, Chloe Rue loves winter adventures! From hiking, to sledding and fort building/destroying, she loves it all! Our craziest adventure was ascending Mount St. Helens in a blizzard. We did have to turn around once it turned into a white out, but Chloe had the time of her life up there! Okay, one more video that is too cute to handle.

Though Chloe will never have a ‘first snow’ again, I am excited to see how she will respond to the first snow of the year. Even when we find a teeny bit of snow on mountain tops she gets excited about it. Maine was many things, and many versions of great but for me, Chloe’s first snow will always make me smile. I hope it made you all smile as well. What are your favorite snow-dog stories? Or your favorite snowy moment? Please leave a comment on social media or if you enjoyed this post give it a share/pin! 1. Awww the videos of Chloe experiencing snow are so cute!!! We have only had snow here once in Texas since we moved here 5ish years ago. And Neko and Omari loved it! Kobe and I not so much. But Neko did experience it a few times in Montana when we lived there. Ooo I have yet to have pumpkin stuff this fall but pumpkin pancakes do sound delicious!!! I would LOVE to visit Maine someday! A Maine lobster roll sounds amazing! There is a food truck here that was featured on the show Shark Tank that sells lobster rolls, Cousin’s Maine Lobster I believe, but I bet their not quite as good as having one fresh from the source.

    1. Maine lobster rolls are SO. GOOD. It was awesome, so many people have fresh lobster, you can even buy it right off the boat!! I love that Neko and Omari loved the snow, I think I remember seeing pictures ♡♡ So cute!
