This season of life is abundant with change for everyone. Those who are essential workers, like myself are putting themselves at risk everyday, with limited equipment to protect against this awful virus, and it is stressful. Then those of us who are working from home, and can’t leave our home, find it is stressful in its own way. Yet, I cannot thank you all enough for working, and for staying home. May we all stay safe and healthy! And if you want to embark on some dogventures with me, please subscribe! Let me try to entertain you all!

I decided to make a fun post with a bunch of funny Chloe stories. We all love our adventure pets, and dogs are sure funny sometimes. So please, sit back, relax and enjoy.

Chloe vs Montreal

It has been an absolute delight to introduce Chloe the puppy to a variety of environments. She has spent time on farms, in small towns, cities, in fenced yards and open spaces. Bringing Chloe across the Canadian border was a whole new kind of adventure. One of my best friends lives in Montreal, and was excited to meet Chloe and show me around the city of Montreal for a weekend when I lived in Maine.

The thing about Montreal (other than it is a gorgeous city, with architectural delights, amazing farmers markets, poutine for the win and a super fun night life) is there are a lot of squirrels. I mean, a lot. Chloe was accompanied by my best friend and myself on our way to the grocery store. We were walking through this small green space when Chloe launched herself forward, pulling until she stood on her hind legs and began to howl.

I am personally convinced Chloe has a bit of a speech impediment, because where normal dogs bark, or howl, Chloe sounds like a dying Coyote, reaching levels of pitch the most sunny Sopranos only dream of obtaining.

The squirrels were either way too used to animals, or way too confused by the atrocious noise coming from this dog, because they just sat, nibbling on their acorns, not even dreaming of being chased up trees.

I tried to use the ‘ignore’ command, and to continue walking, I tried distracting her with treats, I tried pulling her along. It was futile. There were too many squirrels. And there they sat, just staring. People began to laugh at us, in their beautiful french accents. God only knows what they were saying, but I sure felt like speaking a LOT of french, mostly in embarrassment. I decided to pick Chloe Rue up into my arms, which quieted her screams, and we walked through the park to the grocery store.

Beyond the fearless squirrels, I highly recommend visiting Montreal with your dog if you get a chance. It really is beautiful!

Chloe vs the Kayak

I feel like this is a story I can post in pictures, and you all will understand. Chloe hates water, as we all know. She was found in a beaver dam, half drowned and very sad. Since her puppyhood trauma, she tolerates water but she is definitely not one who looks forward to launching herself into the lake. Thankfully, this makes kayaking hugely successful.

  • We begin the hour long kayak journey around Green Peter Lake, savoring the sights and calm rain.
  • The rain progresses, and though I am having a blast, Chloe’s opinion has drastically changed.
  • The mountain views were incredible, the waterfalls were racing their way into the lake, and Chloe was just not having it.
  • We reach the end of the journey, and I am all smiles, but Chloe Rue… well, she bounds out of the Kayak onto the shore and performs zoomies on the beach, letting the whole ‘fight or flight’ phenomenon take over. She races to the truck, where she curls up in a blanket and sleeps.
  • We have learned that kayaking is extremely fun. But Chloe definitely prefers sunny days on the water.

Chloe the Smelly Dog

Once upon a time, there was a beautiful black and brown dog named Chloe Rue, who lived on a gorgeous organic farm. She loved running around in the wide open spaces, chasing gophers and birds. And when her mom called for her, she would come bounding back to see what treats were in her hand. She would always come back to her mom, until one special day, she found a special little treasure, known as ‘the composting toilet’.

Chloe was beyond excited about the smells coming from this toilet. She decided to roll, and roll, and eat, and tear apart, and roll until she was covered from head to toe in the delightful smell of poop. When her mom came trotting down the hill looking for her, and found the state of her smell, she wrinkled her nose, threw her hands in the air and did not look very happy.

Chloe Rue and bath time are a diffcult mix. See, though Chloe had some traumatic experiences with water and she has improved tremendously, bathtime is still a bit of a war. But with treats and pets, bath time did occur. Chloe braced herself to be scrubbed down and rubbed down about six times until the smelliest of smells had disappeared.

Later that same day, Chloe got to spend time with her new friends, 2 yellow labs who lived in a big house where Mom had friends too. Mom was laughing and listening to music and her friends were doing the same! They were being quite silly and maybe drank too much of this weird smelly stuff that comes in fancy bottles. Suddenly, one of the friends sat down with his head in his hands. Mom was very concerned, and so were a couple of the other friends. Suddenly the young man launched upright, running outside with something smelly falling out of his mouth. Chloe Rue, in all of her curiosity wasn’t sure why he looked so funny, and wondered what was coming out of his mouth. He managed to run outside and Chloe followed him, landing directly underneath the smelly stuff falling from his mouth. She decided it was a bit too squishy to roll around in, and pranced up to her mom again, wondering what was wrong with this young man.

Chloe’s mom looked at her, reaching out to pet her, until she noticed the vomit covering Chloe Rue from head to toe.

It was time for another bath.
