Chloe and I have been on so many pet friendly adventures these past two years! We love finding the best local hot spots and spending quality time together. Check out our previous post about ways to find pet friendly adventures and financially friendly adventures near you! Today I’m going to focus on a few of my favorite dog friendly adventures I’ve experienced with Chloe to give some really great examples of what it’s like to bring your adventure pet into public places, and the joy we both experience along the way.

Craving Coffee

One of my favorite things to do with Chloe, that I do very often is spend time at the coffee shop. We love pet friendly restaurants, breweries and cafes. One of my favorite places is in Sioux Falls, South Dakota called Coffea Roasterie and Coffee Bar. We had been reading and exploring at Barnes and Noble just up the road, and I decided to call ahead to ask if they were pet friendly and they said- we absolutely are you could bring her right inside! It was such a fun experience!

Chloe got to go inside and help me pick out the best coffee, receiving all of the pets while waiting in line, and then we sat outside in the sunshine, sipping away on my chai tea latte while Chloe had a bowl of whipped creme and some handy fresh water right underneath our table. She enjoys sitting outside, because she can watch everything that’s going on around her. It takes about 5 minutes of me working on my computer, and then she just lays down to relax on her ‘settle mat’, which is really just a yellow towel.

Munchin’ at Markets

Chloe and I also really enjoy going to farmers markets and other outdoor festivals. One of our favorite times in Columbia, South Carolina was at the Soda City Festival, which is really just a busy downtown market held every Saturday. She had been here before as part of her training and this is actually where she passed certified good dog citizen test! When we were there training, Chloe did an amazing job but we didn’t have a chance to stop at all of the shops because we were too busy training. This time Chloe and I spent our time seeing if we could find three of the most delicious locally sourced food stands. I found someone making those tubular funnel donuts and found myself homemade pickles, as well as an extremely delicious homemade glass of southern sweet tea.

There I sat on Main Street in Columbia, on an outrageously gorgeous October Day, nibbling away on my donut and tea when suddenly Chloe bolts up and forward, almost tipping me off my bench. She pulled and looked at me, with this look of sheer angst. At first I worried- was someone in trouble? It couldn’t be another dog, because we’d been practicing walking past people and dogs all day. No, it was an adventure cat, in a tiny happy halter in its adventure hosts backpack, savoring all the smells. When it was out of sight, Chloe resumed her spot next to me, with those hopeful looks for treats and sniffs of my food, but next time I will be much more prepared for her response to adventure cats.

Lazy Lake Days

Finding time on a lake, river or ocean is especially fun if accompanied by your favorite furry friend. Chloe has been working toward her kayaking tolerance at every spare moment. She particularly enjoyed the time we went kayaking at the Great Smoky Mountains in North Carolina on Fontana Lake. It was beautiful, surrounded by mountains with gentle noises coming from shore, from mountain bikers in the nearby trails, and some exciting splashes caused by fish within the lake. This adventure began with an enormous spider. Chloe is normally willing to checkout the kayak prior to take off, and there I saw her sticking her nose in my life jacket and BOUNCING away, and jumping back to it with an enormous HUFF and jumping away again. Chloe made a lot of fun of me when I decided the best course of action was to use my kayak paddles as extendable hands to get rid of the massive spider.

Happy Hiking

Of course probably the most common and most enjoyable pet friendly adventure with Chloe is savoring nature on a hike. I love finding the trails that are completely deserted and letting her run around off leash, when she get crazy zoomies and then comes right back to me to check in to see if I have a treat in my hand (which I usually do).

We’ve had so many amazing hiking adventures together, it is hard to pick a favorite story! One of my favorites was the day we spent with one of my best friends on the Columbia River Gorge at Wahclella Falls trail. Chloe had a blast exploring the massive boulders and insane green moss, with a beautiful double waterfall at the end of the trail. Hiking is a wonderful way to get outside and enjoy time with your adventure pet,

  1. You two find such fun things to do together! It makes me so happy when coffee shops are pet friendly! And that market looks like so much fun! I’m glad Chloe is getting so comfortable around water now, she looks so content in the Kayak!
